Neighbors Use Nextdoor to Encourage Recycling with a Chance to Win $100k

Written by Danielle Styskal

As a member of Nextdoor’s Neighborhood Operations team, I have the pleasure of hearing first-hand from members who have used their Nextdoor neighborhood websites to reunite a lost dog with its owner, drive an elderly neighbor to doctor appointments, come together to organize a neighborhood clean up day, and more.

Our team recently received an email from a Nextdoor member in Huntington Woods, Michigan with another success story. Nextdoor Huntington Woods was selected as the only community in Michigan to participate in the SC Johnson Recycle Challenge, hosted by Recyclebank. The community is using Nextdoor to get the word out to all of their neighbors that they’re in the running to win $100K to fund a green community project – they’re currently ranked 2nd out of 50 national communities! Prior to having Nextdoor, it may have been difficult for this neighborhood to spread the word so quickly about such a wonderful cause.

I’m always grateful when members take the time to share their stories, as it really validates what we’re trying to do here at Nextdoor – bring back a sense of community to the neighborhood.

Have a success story of your own? We’d love to hear it, and may even feature you on our blog!

Cheers,
Danielle Michelsen
