Written by ndmulti

On Saturday, September 29th, Nextdoor and Assistant to the City Manager Kip Harkness honored two of San Jose’s most connected and innovative neighborhoods at the annual San Jose Neighborhood Development Training Conference. The event was attended by over 300 neighborhood leaders from around the city who shared their enthusiasm for building stronger San Jose neighborhoods.

We’re excited to announce our winners, Nextdoor Silver Creek Valley Country Club (SCVCC), and Nextdoor Hayes!

Congratulations to Nextdoor SCVCC and Nextdoor Hayes!

Peter Ligeti accepted the award for Most Connected Neighborhood on behalf of Nextdoor SCVCC– a community in San Jose’s District 8. Peter started Nextdoor SCVCC in June to get to know more of his neighbors and to keep each other informed about what was happening around the neighborhood. Within two short months, Peter and his fellow Leads were able to recruit over 200 members to join their website, and neighbors have created a public safety group, a book club and a group to support the local high school.
Laura Monczynski accepted the Most Innovative Neighborhood Award on behalf of Nextdoor Hayes. Laura and her husband David worked closely with Hayes Neighborhood Association, President Manuel Souza, and District 2 Councilmember, Ash Kalra, to bring Nextdoor Hayes to the neighborhood. Neighbors have since been using Nextdoor to share local recommendations, Association news and to alert one another about suspicious activities in the community. Most recently, Laura and her neighbors decided to bring all of their neighbors together to meet in-person for an outdoor movie night at their local elementary school. They used Nextdoor to promote the event and over 400 neighbors showed up with their families to socialize with their neighbors!

Just in time for the recent heat-wave, both neighborhoods will receive an ice-cream truck block party featuring Treatbot, San Jose’s own Karaoke Ice Cream Truck! Congratulations Nextdoor SCVCC and Nextdoor Hayes!

Nextdoor launched in the City of San José on August 7th. Already over 10,000 San Jose neighbors across 240 San Jose neighborhoods are using Nextdoor to connect with their neighbors and keep their communities safe.
