Today the Dallas Police Department announced that it has partnered with Nextdoor to facilitate a virtual Neighborhood Watch program and help foster neighbor-to-neighbor communications. The Nextdoor team is thrilled to be working with such a progressive, forward-thinking police department.
Nextdoor is a new tool for the police to share crime prevention and safety information, such as alerts of property crimes in the area or criminal activity, quickly with residents. Further, the number one suggestion police officers make is for residents get to know their neighbors so they can watch out for one another.
When Nextdoor partners with a city, neighbors still establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor websites, but now residents throughout Dallas will receive pertinent crime and safety information from the police through Nextdoor. It’s important to note, though, that the Dallas Police Department will not be able to access the residents’ websites, contact information or content.
Nextdoor’s City Program is working with over 55 city staff and police departments across the country who believe that utilizing technology is vital in both strengthening community partnerships and combating crime.
