Today, communities across the country are gathering at block parties, BBQs, and meetings in order to get to know their neighbors and build stronger and safer communities. Started in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out* (NNO) is “America’s Night Out Against Crime” and is celebrated by 37 million people in 15,000 communities across the country.

Nextdoor is proud to be an official sponsor of NNO in its 30th year.

Neighbors have used Nextdoor to organize their NNO events and to keep their neighborhoods safe all year long. From creating events, to spreading the word about NNO, to reporting suspicious activities in their neighborhoods, Nextdoor members are passionate about keeping their communities connected and safe.

Gathering with neighbors in person is an important step towards building safer communities. Recognizing this, today neighbors across the country are connecting with longtime neighbors, meeting new ones, and spreading tips and information about ways to stay safe in their communities throughout the year. These events are also fantastic opportunities to invite new neighbors to join Nextdoor communities to continue the conversations.

We are excited to be affiliated with the National Association of Town Watch to celebrate this important day, and to help neighbors stay connected and informed throughout the year.

Did your community celebrate NNO this year? If so, what did you do? We would love to hear about your NNO events at stories@nextdoor.com.

The Nextdoor team hopes you have a wonderful day connecting with your neighbors!

*Some communities, including the state of Texas, are sponsoring NNO events on alternate dates. See the official National Night Out site for details.
