Nextdoor Members Spread Holiday Cheer Across the Country

Written by ndmulti

With the launch of our new Holiday Lights Map, we expected to see neighbors post pictures of their homes wrapped in twinkling lights or perhaps sparkling Christmas trees. In fact, we’re delighted to see so much more. It’s the clear the holiday spirit is in full swing!

With tens of thousands of neighborhoods across the country using our Holiday Lights Map, we’ve seen sleepy, snowed-in homes, the glimmer of beloved ornaments on Christmas trees, family photos, and countless dogs and cats dressed in their holiday finest. We have seen excited children, dazzling outdoor light displays, and igloos built in front yards. We’ve even seen a Washington D.C. snowman attempting to hitchhike to Florida.

More than anything, though, we have seen neighbors connecting with each other over their shared fondness of the season. Tweets and Facebook posts have popped up from around the country as neighbors use the Nextdoor Holiday Lights Map to create a virtual holiday card to share far and wide with neighbors, friends, and family.

We’re honored to be a part of your holiday cheer. To celebrate, we’ve gathered our favorite photos to share with you.

From all of us at Nextdoor, we wish you a very merry holiday season, and we look forward to many more.

  • Love looking at the holiday pics! Is it too late to post? Finally finished decorating but not sure how to post pics here. Can we post videos? Mr. Grinch is waiting….. (and I’m a dork!)

  • Loved it–thank you for sharing!
May you and your team have a joyous holiday season. Louise, CA Central Coast

  • To everyone at Nextdoor I thank you ever so much for all your hard work and giving us this site that allows us to communicate on so many different levels.
Many thanks to all who shared your wonderful Christmas photos with us.
To everyone everywhere may you all be blessed during these holiday seasons and each and everyday.
To our US Troops and Heroes near and far God Bless you for your service and may all of you come home soon safely and be reunited with your families, loved ones and countries! We as Americans would not live in this great country land of the free and home of the brave without your honorable sacrifices. We can never THANK you enough.

  • However, do not be blinded by all the twinkling lights, cute decorations, and parties. We need to remember the true meaning of Christmas, and no it cannot be found under the tree on Christmas morning, it is not even peace, love, kindness to others, or even family. The previous are overflows of the true meaning of Christmas. It is the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, sent here from God to make everything right with God once again (how it was originally intended from the beginning of the Earth) by having his own Son die for our sins on the cross when he was much older. This day represents “the birth” of God’s much bigger plan in His love, grace, and mercy for us. So this season enjoy the lights, the decorations, parties, and even the presents, but don’t forget to look to the manager where God started His plan for redemption of our sins, through the birth of a tiny baby in a lowly manager thousands of years ago. So do not let your families forget the true meaning of Christmas. If this offends some people, I am not sorry for now you know the Truth and I am unapologetic for my belief in Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, Besides I have freedom of speech, too.

    • Jill, MY FAMILY TOO ARE CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.. GOD SAYS, IF ANY WANTS TO BOAST, THEY SHOULD BOAST THAT THEY KNOW ME…….THESES ARE THE THINGS THAT PLEASE ME….AMEN…

      • Yes the things are fruits of the Spirit. My point was to remind others that Christ is the reason we celebrate Christmas and not the commercialized version everyone gets.

  • I loved each and every picture. Especially with the Christmas Pets 🙂 Kinda made me home sick when I saw the pretty houses covered in snow. Thank you everyone.

  • I so love all these pictures. I’ve lost both my dog Chloe and Sadie Chloe you died of a brain tumor Sadie died of kidney failure. They died a month apart about 3 months ago. I love seeing all your dog it really brought a smile to my face. It was the hardest thing I had to go through especially through the holiday season! We had a nice holiday with my family, it was a joy to have them all around. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you. Its wonderful having you all for my neighbors.
