Nextdoor Connects Neighborhoods, Increases Safety in Sacramento

Written by Danielle Styskal

In June 2013, the Sacramento Police Department partnered with Nextdoor in an effort to help facilitate a virtual neighborhood watch program across the city and to help foster neighbor-to-neighbor communications. In just five months, the Department surpassed their year-long membership goal of 10,000 residents on Nextdoor – but they didn’t stop there.

The Sacramento Police Department credits Nextdoor and other efforts with the lowest homicide rate in 40 years.
In their quest to make Sacramento the safest big city in California, the Sacramento Police Department has implemented new methods of policing, and has increased the size of the police force and its involvement with the community, which includes their use of Nextdoor.

Thanks to their efforts, the Department recently announced that the homicide rate is the lowest it has been in 40 years. In addition, Sacramento’s overall crime rate dropped 10% in 2013, and fell another 15% in 2014. The Sacramento Police Department credited Nextdoor, in part, for this decrease.

We’re honored to have played a small role in helping make Sacramento one of California’s safest big cities.

As reported by The Sacramento Bee.
