Celebrating One Year with the City of Seattle

Written by Danielle Styskal

Today, City Strategist Justine Fenwick was in Seattle to celebrate the one year anniversary of our partnership with the City of Seattle!

The City of Seattle and the Seattle Police Department began using Nextdoor last October to improve citywide communications and aid in the Seattle Police Department’s Micro-Community Policing Plan initiative. Since then, the city has seen a 140 percent increase in membership across Nextdoor, with 98 percent of the city’s neighborhoods engaged on the platform – and a 13 percent decrease in crime across the city.

Members from across Seattle commemorate the city’s one year anniversary of partnership with Nextdoor alongside Mayor Murray and Justine Fenwick.

To commemorate last year’s launch, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole hosted an awards ceremony at the police headquarters. They invited residents from some of Seattle’s most active Nextdoor neighborhoods and honored them for their commitment to building stronger and safer Seattle neighborhoods.

Justine also presented Mayor Murray and Chief O’Toole with letters of recognition from Nextdoor’s Co-Founder and CEO, Nirav Tolia, commending them for their commitment to using Nextdoor.

Attendees were then treated to a tour of the police department’s new Real Time Crime Center.

We are proud to partner with pioneers like Mayor Murray and Chief O’Toole who are dedicated to finding innovative solutions to make their cities even better places to call home.
