Neighbors Use Nextdoor to Help Strangers who Lost Everything in Fire

Written by Danielle Styskal

After a house fire devastated one Mooresville family – they lost everything, including their family pets – the community decided to take action.

With a simple post on Nextdoor, neighbor Jaime Frederick of Nextdoor Northbridge rallied her neighborhood to support the family.

“We all drive by their house every day, and it’s a huge reality check. It could have happened to any of us,” Jaime said.

Jaime thought she might receive a few gift cards from her fellow neighbors, but in just one week, she collected over 20 gift cards and monetary donations that totaled more than $2,000.

More than $2,000 in donations poured in from Northbridge neighbors.

She arranged the gift cards and money into a floral bouquet and presented it to the family on behalf of the neighborhood. Neighbors are also continuing to cook meals for the family while they try to get back on their feet.

Neighbor Jaime Frederick arranged the donations into a floral bouquet to present to the fire victims.

The family was speechless and moved to tears – beyond grateful for the generous gesture by complete strangers.

“It gave me faith that people are good,” said fire victim Brynne Beaver.
