St. Louis’ Neighborhood Pet Rescuer Wins Nextdoor’s Good Neighbor Award

Written by Jen Burke

Each month, Nextdoor is honoring the good neighbors who are making a difference in their neighborhoods every day with our Good Neighbor Award.

Each winner is nominated by their neighbors and will receive a gift card from Nextdoor in recognition of the positive impact they have made in their community. To nominate a good neighbor in your community, click here.

St. Louis’ Marine Villa neighborhood and its surrounding communities have their very own lost and found pet guru in their good neighbor, Tina Roe. Tina has lived in Marine Villa throughout her life and gives back to her community by helping return lost pets to their owners.

In honor of the countless hours Tina has dedicated to helping neighbors reunite with their beloved family pets, Nextdoor has recognized her with the Good Neighbor Award in St. Louis.

St. Louis Good Neighbor Award Winner, Tina Roe

Tina was nominated by several of her neighbors, a couple of whom have actually never even met Tina in person. However, they were inspired to nominate her after witnessing all of the lost pet posts she makes and responds to on Nextdoor, all the flyers and banners she hangs throughout the neighborhood, and the expert advice she shares with neighbors in an effort to help all lost pets find their way home.

Danielle J., one of the neighbors who nominated Tina, said, “Whenever there is a lost pet in our community Tina gets involved every time. She is so successful in helping return lost pets to their owners and she is only one person, with a full-time job – she just does this out of the kindness of her heart for our community.” Danielle has a dog of her own who has never been lost, but finds great comfort in knowing she will always have someone to turn to for help and advice if her dog does stray.

Helping return lost pets to their families is simply Tina’s passion in life. For her that means hanging up flyers until 3:30AM in hopes of bringing a lost rescue home, helping find an elderly pug who was displaced by horrible floods, and hanging huge neon posters in the neighborhood as a last attempt to find an Akita who had been missing for nearly a month. On top of that, she also works and volunteers at several rescue organizations including the Missouri Lost & Found Paws, Stray Rescue, BJC Hospice, Therapy Dogs International, and Foster for Min Pins & More Rescue.

Tina volunteering at an animal center

This Saturday is National Lost Dog Awareness Day and we hope that others are inspired by Tina’s story – perhaps, even take a moment to visit your own Nextdoor community and see if there is a missing pet you can help find its way home.

Congratulations, Tina. Thank you for being a good neighbor!
