Celebrating National Night Out

Written by Anne Dreshfield

Today, neighbors across the country are gathering at neighborhood block parties, parades, and meetings to strengthen community and police-community relations in honor of National Night Out, the nation’s largest crime prevention event.

Started in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is a chance for neighbors to head outside, meet their neighbors, and build community in their neighborhoods.

We’re proud to have been an official sponsor of National Night Out since 2012, as we share their mission of building stronger and safer neighborhoods everywhere. Nextdoor members are passionate about keeping their communities connected and safe – whether that means fighting back against criminals, stopping package thefts, or even helping to find a lost child.

For the past two years, we’ve helped neighbors in more than 100,000 neighborhoods across the United States discover and share National Night Out events near them with our National Night Out Events Map. To find local National Night Out events near you, click here.

From all of us at Nextdoor, we wish you a happy National Night Out and hope you stay connected to your community, both today and all year round.
