In the US, it began nearly five years ago, and today, over 112,000 neighborhoods – more than 65% of all American neighborhoods – rely on Nextdoor. This past February, neighbors in the Netherlands joined Nextdoor when it became available as our first international expansion. Already, more than 25% of Dutch neighborhoods have adopted the Nextdoor platform.
Today, we are excited to announce that we’re continuing our international expansion by launching across the United Kingdom to England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Nextdoor is now available for all neighborhoods across the UK, and the product has been fully localized on Web, iOS, and Android devices.
However, the same study revealed that a third of Brits don’t know any of their neighbors, and less than half believe there is a still sense of community spirit in their neighborhood. Just 12% of Brits feel strongly connected to their community, and 10% – or families living in roughly 2.6 million households – can’t even name their next door neighbor.
We know Nextdoor can help. During a four-month beta period, Nextdoor has been embraced by 250 neighborhoods in cities, towns and villages all across the UK. In fact, approximately 10% of all London neighborhoods are already utilizing Nextdoor to connect, building a greater sense of community across the capital city. And we’re just getting started. This Saturday, with the help of Nextdoor, more than 30 communities will be hosting neighborhood picnics across the UK to celebrate building stronger neighborhoods.
We couldn’t be more excited about bringing Nextdoor to the UK. To all of our friends in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales…welcome to the neighborhood! You can get started on Nextdoor by finding your neighborhood here.
