Honoring Our 2016 Good Neighbors in Celebration of National Good Neighbor Day

Written by ndmulti

We’re passionate about being good neighbors, whether we’re turning a neglected plot of land into a beautiful community garden, uniting a neighborhood to fight crime, or helping a neighbor in need of an organ transplant.

These everyday heroes often go unrecognized – yet we hear these inspiring stories from Nextdoor members across the country time and time again. We’re constantly reminded of just how powerful an impact a single good neighbor can have in a community.

Today, in honor of National Good Neighbor Day, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the good neighbors in communities everywhere.

National Good Neighbor Day was founded in the early 1970s by Becky Mattson, a Montana native, and is now a nationally-recognized day to appreciate and be thankful for good neighbors. More than 40 years later, we’re furthering Becky’s mission by recognizing good neighbors all year round with our Good Neighbor Awards.

We started these awards in order to help neighbors nominate and celebrate the neighbors making an impact in their local communities, and we’re proud to have selected 25 winners over the past year. Now is the perfect time to celebrate these incredible neighbors and all that they’ve done for their communities – check out their inspiring stories below!

From all of us at Nextdoor, happy National Good Neighbor Day. We hope you take a moment to recognize and thank your good neighbors for all the ways they support community, all year round!
