Nextdoor Welcomes the Camden County Police Department to the Neighborhood

Written by Anne Dreshfield

Today, we’re excited to welcome the Camden County Police Department to the Nextdoor neighborhood.

The department announced our partnership today at Farnham Park in the Parkview neighborhood of Camden, New Jersey, and welcomed the community to join in and celebrate the announcement.

“The Camden County Police Department is constantly looking for innovative ways to bolster community relations,” Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said at today’s event. “We believe this partnership will be effective and productive for each resident and provide another opportunity to share information between police officers and neighbors.”

The Camden County Police Department has been lauded for their effectiveness in reducing crime through community policing and technology. Almost one year ago, President Barack Obama visited Camden to recognize the Camden County Police Department’s innovative methods in addressing crime and to announce the White House’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing, noting that “the use of technology, combined with smart community policing, can really make a difference.”

Our partnership with the Camden County Police Department began with one commander, Southern District Commander Lt. Zsakhiem James, who was searching for a tool for neighbors to receive the latest information on crime trends in their local community.

“Block by block, the city changes rapidly, as far as neighborhoods and landscape is concerned, so I was looking for a way to target important public service messaging to specific areas,” Commander James says. “Nextdoor gives us that opportunity.”

With Nextdoor, the Camden County Police Department will be able to send relevant and targeted information to a single neighborhood, a group of neighborhoods, or to all of the neighborhoods in Camden County with the click of a button. The Camden County Police Department has been piloting Nextdoor for the past month, already using it to share tips on how to stay safe from online fraud, asking the public for help in solving a murder, and sharing events with neighborhoods across the county.

From all of us at Nextdoor: welcome to the neighborhood, Camden County!
