Announcements Team Nextdoor

Welcoming Steve Wymer to the neighborhood

Written by Nirav Tolia

As Nextdoor approaches adoption in 70% of neighborhoods across the U.S., we are well on our way to becoming the defacto local platform.

Every day, members in more than 116,000 neighborhoods are using Nextdoor in amazing ways to strengthen their local communities.

More and more neighbors are relying on Nextdoor, and our narrative is evolving. Members are increasingly discussing local government issues, supporting local businesses, and engaging with public agencies. As Nextdoor’s utility broadens, we now need to add an experienced executive to our management team with a background in communications and policy to help us tell the Nextdoor story.

Today I am excited to announce that Steve Wymer has joined Nextdoor as Vice President of Communications and Policy.

Steve has a unique background at the nexus of communications and policy having spent more than eight years in the U.S. Senate as a communications advisor and spokesman to three different Senators. Steve’s international experience working with activists, elected officials and entrepreneurs in developing countries over the last decade on behalf of the U.S. Department of State has profoundly shaped his life and work.

Most recently, Steve spent five years leading global communications and public affairs for TiVo as the company experienced unprecedented subscriber growth and forged into new markets before successfully being acquired earlier this year. While with TiVo, Steve immersed himself in a variety of community leadership roles, serving as a board member and supporter of several transformative South Bay community non-profit organizations.

Steve is literally a walking billboard for causes and organizations he believes in and we’re ecstatic to welcome him to Nextdoor. Like all of us at Nextdoor, Steve understands that waving hello to a new neighbor says, “Welcome” better than any doormat – just as our manifesto states. Steve was inspired to join Nextdoor by the important opportunity to build stronger and safer neighborhoods across the world. Get a better sense of Steve’s passion for helping others by reading his online travel journal from some past visits to East Africa.

We couldn’t be more excited about the future of Nextdoor. Our growth is bringing us closer to realizing the vision that every neighbor, in every neighborhood, will depend on Nextdoor every day. The stories of how Nextdoor can help local communities reach their full potential must be told, and Steve is thrilled to help us lead this effort.

Please join me in welcoming Steve Wymer to the neighborhood!
