We had a fantastic visit to Boise, ID this past Saturday to celebrate Nextdoor South Boise Village for their help in introducing Nextdoor to Idaho back in the Fall of 2011. Over 100 neighbors gathered for their annual neighborhood ice cream social put on by the South Boise Village Neighborhood Association, and enjoyed various ice cream treats courtesy of Cool Intentions Ice Cream.
The event was held at Manitou Park, where the City recently installed a new pavilion for neighbors to enjoy during the hot summer months. Kids played kickball and parachute games out on the grass, while parents mingled in the pavilion’s cool shade.
They were also joined by officers from the Boise PD, as well as City Council President, Elaine Clegg. Nextdoor is partnered with both the PD and the City, so we were honored to have them be part of the celebration.
During the gathering, Council President Clegg helped Nextdoor honor our South Boise Village Good Neighbor winner, Ashley Rowe, a neighbor who has gone above and beyond to serve her local community. According to her neighbors, Ashley is a wonderful community organizer, who for the past four years has planned the neighborhood’s Fall Fest and scarecrow contest, an event that the whole neighborhood looks forward to each year. She also started a book club and yoga in the park as fun ways for neighbors to get to know one another. It is thanks to neighbors like Ashley that the South Boise Village neighborhood is so well connected.
It is also thanks to Elizabeth Barnes, president of the Neighborhood Association, that this event and many others throughout the year are made possible. As Elizabeth said in an interview with ABC Boise, “We do a lot of things in our neighborhood association such as a Fall Fest, Wake Up Boise, and an annual ice cream social to get the neighbors together so that we get to know one another, and it has really made a difference in our community.”
We were honored to celebrate Nextdoor South Boise Village and thank them for their help in growing Nextdoor to more than 700 neighborhoods across the greater Boise area. And now to Arlington, VA we go for the 9th stop of our tour!
