Today is the first day of National Good Neighbor Month, a time to celebrate those in our communities who are doing good and find ways to make positive change ourselves. To help us kick off our month of good neighbor celebrations, we’ve partnered with NASCAR driver Justin Allgaier and JR Motorsports to recognize a standout community member in Charlotte, NC.
After receiving hundreds of nominations, we are thrilled to be recognizing Bart Noonan, founder of West Blvd Ministry in Charlotte. Bart is the epitome of a good neighbor and has an incredible story of perseverance, strength, and faith. Seven years ago, Bart turned his life around after battling a 20 year alcohol and drug addiction. Considering what he wanted his legacy to be, Bart stepped forward into a new life of faith and service to those in need. He founded West Blvd Ministry and began walking with members of his community going through unimaginable hardships.
One such neighbor is Tangela Allen, a single mother of five young men who, at the time of meeting Bart, had fallen on hard times. Bart chose to walk with Tangela and her boys, giving them the support they needed to get their life back on track. Bart helped the family find a new home in the West Blvd neighborhood and aided Tangela in finding a stable job.
As part of Bart’s Good Neighbor prize, he received eight VIP tickets to attend the Darlington Xfinity Race to watch Justin Allgaier in action. In good neighbor fashion, Bart decided to bring the Allen family as his special guests. He knew this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the boys that they would always remember.
Last week, Justin surprised the Allen boys at Reid Park Academy with their tickets for today’s race at Darlington. Bart and the family are spending the day as Justin’s VIP guests with access to the pit and the opportunity to tour Justin’s race day hauler, take pictures with his #7 car, and see what it’s like to be a professional race car driver. Check out the photos below to see Bart, Tangela, and the boys enjoying this amazing experience.
We are honored to be recognizing Bart Noonan today and look forward to sharing additional good neighbor stories throughout the month of September. Happy National Good Neighbor month everyone! May we all #seethegood around us.
