‘Posts from Nextdoor’: Helping Members Stay Informed and Connected

Written by Team Nextdoor

Millions of people turn to Nextdoor to find relevant local information to address their daily needs through posts from neighbors, agency partners, and local businesses. Now, as local news remains valuable but not always accessible, we’re proud to announce a new feature — ‘Posts from Nextdoor’ — to keep neighbors informed with local news, weather, polls, and more.

‘Posts from Nextdoor’ combines the latest capabilities in journalism and machine-learning. Our data scientists analyze millions of signals from partners to identify trends and anomalies, and our editors craft stories and templates that can be localized to any neighborhood.* The result is thousands of posts about important local news, business (re)openings, and interactive neighborhood polls shared broadly with members in neighborhoods across the US, Europe, Canada and Australia.

Local news

Working with 800+ trusted local media partners, Nextdoor mixes editorial with machine learning models to highlight stories about important issues and topics where our members live, such as local politics and issues, community events, and urgent alerts and updates about extreme weather conditions.

Local business [re]openings

Vibrant businesses make vibrant neighborhoods, but the pandemic has made it difficult for Nextdoor members to know whether their favorite local business is closed or reopening. Through data, Nextdoor is able to identify the statuses of thousands of brand new and reopening businesses per month and share that information with members through Posts from Nextdoor — all of which is particularly critical during COVID-19.

Local Pulse

Neighborhood polls and discussion prompts add texture to the Nextdoor experience while creating a fun, easy, and engaging way for members to share their views and experiences. For members, it’s a way to interact with neighbors, learn about their local community, and compare their neighborhoods to broader trends across the country. The rich data from members all over the world answering the same questions unlocks insights into the character and people of every neighborhood.

  • Can we add a feature to open all replies on a thread?

It is really annoying on larger threads to have to click on each set of replies within same thread.

  • You all need to make sure that no matter what types of foundations, businesses and/or whatever it may be of the types of fields of work that you all post up on your website, that to make sure that they always make sure to add photos, videos as well as any other forms of media that they could that would be able to talk about the complete history of all those types of fields of work as well as to make sure that they make sure to translate their company’s own websites into as many different worldwide foreign languages as they could. All the same stuff would go for this type of website as well. Lastly, you all need to make sure that all those that are ever involved in all of these fields of work, that they always make sure to find the biggest destinations that they could ever find to have their offices in. In this way, no matter how many clients that they have come to them, customers that they have come to them or however you’d want to call them, that their offices will always have more than enough room space for all those that come to them for all the reasons that they do.

  • it is always good to know about everything in our neighborhood. Information today is our greatest treasure, and we always need to value good information when we have it. Thank you for the good work

  • How about adding method of reaching Emergency Contacts by TEXT to cell phones. email is too slow for emergencies.
