‘Posts from Nextdoor’: Helping Members Stay Informed and Connected
Millions of people turn to Nextdoor to find relevant local information to address their daily needs through posts from neighbors, agency partners, and local businesses. Now, as local news remains valuable but not always accessible, we’re proud to announce a new feature — ‘Posts from Nextdoor’ — to keep neighbors informed with local news, weather, polls, and more.
‘Posts from Nextdoor’ combines the latest capabilities in journalism and machine-learning. Our data scientists analyze millions of signals from partners to identify trends and anomalies, and our editors craft stories and templates that can be localized to any neighborhood.* The result is thousands of posts about important local news, business (re)openings, and interactive neighborhood polls shared broadly with members in neighborhoods across the US, Europe, Canada and Australia.
Local news
Working with 800+ trusted local media partners, Nextdoor mixes editorial with machine learning models to highlight stories about important issues and topics where our members live, such as local politics and issues, community events, and urgent alerts and updates about extreme weather conditions.

Local business [re]openings
Vibrant businesses make vibrant neighborhoods, but the pandemic has made it difficult for Nextdoor members to know whether their favorite local business is closed or reopening. Through data, Nextdoor is able to identify the statuses of thousands of brand new and reopening businesses per month and share that information with members through Posts from Nextdoor — all of which is particularly critical during COVID-19.

Local Pulse
Neighborhood polls and discussion prompts add texture to the Nextdoor experience while creating a fun, easy, and engaging way for members to share their views and experiences. For members, it’s a way to interact with neighbors, learn about their local community, and compare their neighborhoods to broader trends across the country. The rich data from members all over the world answering the same questions unlocks insights into the character and people of every neighborhood.
