Pop-up Bike Shop Becomes Full-Time Business | Nextdoor Neighbor Story
This Neighbor Month, find out how a Madison, WI man’s career got a tune-up thanks to community support
After Ian lost his job as a fitness coach in early 2020, he quickly switched gears, starting his own curbside bicycle maintenance shop. He advertised his services on Nextdoor, alerting neighbors of when he’d be on their block for tune-ups and other repairs. With more people working out and staying home, the pop-up concept took off.
By the time his old employer offered him his job back, Ian declined. “When I realized I could fully support myself, that was an awesome moment,” he said. Still going strong more than a year later, Ian has hired another bike mechanic and continues to grow his business in Madison, Wisconsin.
