Find local support with GoFundMe and Nextdoor

A new partnership with GoFundMe enables neighbors to garner help from their community

One of the most inspiring reasons neighbors come to Nextdoor is to give and get help. It’s why we created the interactive Help Map back in 2020 where you can mark yourself as someone who can pitch in for neighbors who need it. And today, it’s why we are introducing our first-ever crowdfunding partnership with GoFundMe to empower your neighbors to help each other and support local causes.

You can now share your GoFundMe fundraisers directly to Nextdoor, making it easier than ever to garner support from a community of people who want to help.

Whether you’re helping a neighbor in need or working to achieve a dream, Nextdoor helps you spread the word beyond your personal social networks with instant distribution to everyone nearby. As the leading online fundraising platform, GoFundMe enables neighbors to turn their support into action.

When seven-year-old Charleigh in Rockford, IL was told her dad had stage IV lung cancer, she decided to start a lemonade stand in her neighborhood to help raise money for the cost of her dad’s chemotherapy. Charleigh’s mom, Mel, posted on Nextdoor to invite neighbors to stop by her daughter’s lemonade stand. The whole community stepped up for Charleigh as neighbors showed up to support her while others who couldn’t be there in person donated over $9,000 via a GoFundMe link her mom shared on Nextdoor.

Nashville neighbor Shawn D. posted on Nextdoor to admit that he no longer felt safe walking in his neighborhood due to the increase in violence against Black men and women. In response, hundreds of neighbors from nearby communities showed up to walk alongside him. Shawn started a GoFundMe to turn these walks into a nationwide movement and to date, people have donated over $50,000 to help Shawn travel the country and host walks for racial justice.
