Neighbors will now see hyper-local forecast content and weather warning alerts from exclusive weather provider, The Weather Company

When a severe weather event, like a hurricane or wildfire, is heading your way, it’s often your neighbors, local businesses, and public agencies who you turn to first for help before, during, and after a storm.

As Hurricane Idalia approached their Inverness, FL, community last month, Sue-Ann and her husband, Donald, realized their generator wasn’t working. They quickly turned to Nextdoor for a solution and found multiple options for assistance, including a local handyman who offered to fix their generator for free.

Luckily, Sue-Ann and Donald’s home did not sustain any damage, but they felt extremely grateful that they were prepared for the storm.

“Neighbors connecting, that’s what Nextdoor is all about,” Sue-Ann said.

As September is National Preparedness Month, there’s never been a better time to be prepared for a possible weather event or emergency in your local community.

To keep neighbors informed with the latest information, Nextdoor is excited to announce our new collaboration with The Weather Channel, the flagship consumer brand of The Weather Company.

Now, neighbors on Nextdoor will receive on-platform weather alerts and push notifications, powered by the world’s most accurate weather forecaster*, The Weather Channel. Providing crucial details of an emerging weather event, these alerts within Nextdoor allows neighbors to quickly connect with their communities, prepare for severe weather, and build more resilient, more connected communities.

To ensure immediate receipt of this urgent information, Nextdoor neighbors will also receive these severe weather alerts via push notification and email to organize together and take stock of needs, help, and resources in their immediate area.

Earlier this month, for National Preparedness Month, Nextdoor also launched a resource for anyone seeking information and resources during a weather event. Neighbors can visit nextdoor.com/crisis to learn more and join Nextdoor or invite others to the platform.

Knowing the latest information and preparing for severe weather events can potentially be lifesaving for you and members of your community. Stay informed of the latest and connect on Nextdoor to share updates and resources with your fellow neighbors to give and get help when you need it most.
