America is turning 250 this Saturday, and Nextdoor is marking the milestone as a partner of America250, the official U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission.
The centerpiece of America250’s celebration is America's Block Party: a nationwide, synchronized July 4th event built to connect local communities from coast to coast. The flagship show takes place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, with Chris Stapleton, The Smashing Pumpkins, Chaka Khan, and Anthony Ramos performing live, hosted by Queen Latifah. Tickets are $17.76 (a deliberate nod to 1776), and net proceeds go directly to Feeding America, the country's largest domestic hunger-relief organization.
Gates open at 3 p.m. with Block Party Village — free food, drinks, face painting, and games before the headline show starts at 6:30. Fireworks and a drone spectacular close out the night. Veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders can access 5,000 complimentary tickets through VetTix.
America's Block Party is built around an idea Nextdoor has always operated from: that national moments feel different when you experience them locally, with the people on your street, in your ZIP code, in your community. That connective tissue is what we've spent more than a decade building, and it's exactly what America250 is trying to scale up to a country level on July 4th.
Can't make it to LA? The America250 mobile app can help you find a local block party wherever you are. And wherever you spend the 4th, consider joining Giving 4th — a new annual tradition built with Giving Tuesday that turns Independence Day into a day of charitable giving.
