Getting You Where You Need to Go: Waze Partners with Nextdoor Alerts
We've heard you loud and clear: when you're planning your day, traffic matters. A lot.
Whether it's a school run that suddenly takes twice as long, a road closure that blocks your usual route to work, or an accident that's backing up traffic for miles—you want to know about it before you leave the house. And you want to hear about it from a source you can trust.
That's why we're excited to announce that Waze is now integrated into Nextdoor Alerts.
Traffic alerts you've been asking for
Since we launched Nextdoor Alerts this summer, we've been listening to what you need most. Traffic updates, road closures, and construction alerts topped the list—34% of neighbors told us these were critical to staying informed about what's happening nearby.
The thing is, traffic isn't just about getting from point A to point B. It's about knowing whether you need to leave early for your kid's soccer game. It's about warning your neighbor that their commute home is going to be rough. It's about being prepared for what's happening on the streets where you live.
Why Waze?
Waze has built something special: a community of millions of drivers who share real-time updates about what's actually happening on the road right now. Accidents, hazards, road closures, traffic jams—all reported by real people as they're driving.
That community-powered approach? It's exactly what Nextdoor is all about.
When you get a Waze alert on Nextdoor, you're not just seeing a dot on a map. You're getting information you can discuss with your neighbors, add context to, and use to make better decisions about your day. Maybe someone knows an alternate route. Maybe they can confirm how long the backup is. Maybe they just want to commiserate about the traffic on Main Street.
That's the power of bringing these two platforms together.

How it works
Here's what you can expect:
- Real-time alerts about accidents, road closures, hazards, and traffic issues in your neighborhood will appear right in your Nextdoor feed
- Visual maps show you exactly where the problem is
- Neighborhood context lets you discuss what's happening with neighbors who might have additional info
- Direct access to Waze if you want more details or turn-by-turn navigation
The alerts are hyperlocal, timely, and—most importantly—useful. Just like everything else we're building at Nextdoor.
More than just traffic
This partnership is part of something bigger. We're committed to making Nextdoor the place you turn to when you need to know what's happening in your neighborhood, right now.
Whether it's severe weather, power outages, local news, or yes, traffic on your street—we want to make sure you're informed, prepared, and connected to the neighbors around you.
Traffic alerts from Waze are rolling out to US neighbors now. Keep an eye on your alerts, and let us know what you think.
Because at the end of the day, we're all just trying to get home.
