Introducing the 2026 Nextdoor Friendliest Neighborhoods in America

What makes a neighborhood truly great? It's not just the local coffee shop on the corner or the proximity to a good school…it's about the people. It's the neighbor who waves you down to let you know you have a delivery sitting on the porch, or the person who sends a welcome message the week you move in, or the community group that quietly organizes a meal train when someone on the block is going through a hard time.

At Nextdoor, we get a front-row seat to millions of these moments every day. This year, we've analyzed those interactions to identify the places in America where community connection is strongest. Today, we're releasing the 2026 Nextdoor Friendliest Neighborhoods — a comprehensive look at community connection. View below to see how your city stacks up.

    What We Looked At

Because our rankings are built entirely from real neighbor interactions on the Nextdoor platform, this is a list that only we could publish. No surveys, no self-reported data — just an honest look at how neighbors actually show up for one another.

The Nextdoor Friendliness Score works like an index: each city's friendliest neighborhood receives a top score of 100, and others are ranked in relation to it. We looked at a range of signals, including the tone of neighbor posts, how often requests for help or recommendations got fulfilled, how many items were shared for free, whether new neighbors received a warm welcome, and how actively residents supported local businesses.

To make sure the rankings are meaningful, we only included cities with 10 or more distinct neighborhoods.

    Friendliness, All 50 States

This year, for the first time, we're sharing the friendliest cities in every single state. Whether you're in a major metro or a mid-sized market, chances are your city made the list — and you might be surprised which neighborhoods came out on top.
