Light Up Your Neighborhood: Nextdoor Partners with Netflix’s Stranger Things for Epic Holiday Decoration Contest

Written by #TeamNextdoor | Dec 2, 2025 3:00:02 PM

The holidays are here, and this year, Nextdoor is teaming up with Netflix's Stranger Things to celebrate what neighbors do best - go all out with holiday decorations that bring joy, wonder, and maybe just a little bit of chaos to their communities.

If you've ever channeled your inner Joyce Byers and gone overboard with the lights (and let's be honest, who hasn't?), we want to see it. Whether your display is elaborate enough to open a portal to the Upside Down or simple enough to make Santa smile, we're inviting neighbors across the country to share their holiday creativity in The Stranger Things Holiday Lights Contest.

Why Holiday Lights Matter to Neighborhoods

There's something special about driving through your neighborhood during the holidays and seeing homes lit up with twinkling lights, inflatable characters, and creative displays. These decorations do more than brighten homes - they brighten spirits, create shared experiences, and give neighbors something to talk about and celebrate together.

At Nextdoor, we've seen how holiday decorations spark community connection. Neighbors post photos of their favorite displays, organize walking tours to see the best lights, and share recommendations about which streets are must-sees. Some even coordinate with their block to create synchronized displays or themed neighborhoods. It's community building at its most joyful.

This partnership with Stranger Things takes that community spirit and adds a playful twist. After all, if any show understands the power of small-town neighborhoods coming together, it's Stranger Things.

How to Enter The Stranger Things Holiday Lights Contest

Entering is simple. Visit https://st5holidaycontest.com/ and submit a photo of your holiday light display. It doesn't matter if you've transformed your entire yard into a winter wonderland or if you've simply strung a few strands of lights - we want to see how you're celebrating the season.

Do you have a holiday display that beckons creatures from the other side of the rift? We want to see it! Is Santa the only creature in your decorative feature? We still want to see it!

Add a little Joyce into your decorations - go overboard with the lights - and share it with your neighbors and the Stranger Things community.

What You Can Win

Winners will receive special Stranger Things-themed prizes from Netflix, including:

  • Netflix gift cards
  • Stranger Things LEGO sets
  • Funko Pop! figures (Eleven, Will, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas)

Selected submissions will also be featured on the contest page, giving you neighborhood bragging rights and a place in Stranger Things history.

The Perfect Timing: Stranger Things 5 Arrives This Holiday Season

This contest coincides with the highly anticipated final season of Stranger Things, which drops on Netflix in three parts this holiday season:

  • Volume 1: November 26 at 5 PM PT
  • Volume 2: Christmas at 5 PM PT
  • Finale: New Year's Eve at 5 PM PT

Just as the Hawkins crew comes together one last time, we're bringing neighbors together to celebrate creativity, community, and the joy of the holiday season.
