Introducing Local Faves: The New Way to Discover Businesses Your Neighbors Love

Written by #TeamNextdoor | Sep 2, 2026, 11:00:35 AM

Finding a local business you love just got easier. Starting today, Nextdoor is launching Local Faves, a new discovery hub built entirely around recommendations from real, verified neighbors, along with a set of updates that make it easier for businesses to build the kind of reputation that can't be bought.

The timing matters. 97% of consumers rely on reviews to make purchase decisions, but 59% have run into one they believe was fake. Nextdoor has approached business recommendations from a unique starting point: both neighbors and businesses on the platform are verified, so the recommendations neighbors see are coming from real people who live nearby and have actually used the business.

This isn't a new behavior for Nextdoor, just a more visible one. For years, neighbors on Nextdoor have turned to each other for local business recommendations, so often that these organic recommendations already make up nearly 30% of all content on the platform. Businesses have claimed free Business Pages and collected neighbor recommendations and Faves, Nextdoor's signal that a neighbor vouches for a business, for years. Today's launch is about surfacing that trust more prominently for neighbors and giving businesses more credit for having earned it.

At the center of today's launch is a simple conviction: real people decide who's trustworthy. Every Fave is tied to a verified neighbor's endorsement. No tiered stars. No paid reviews. No anonymous voices. No manufactured credibility. The businesses winning on Nextdoor are winning the right way, and their neighbors are the ones telling that story.

The scale backs it up. Neighbors have shared nearly 75 million Faves across nearly 6.6 million businesses worldwide, a number that keeps growing because the behavior was already there. In addition to launching Local Faves, here are a few other platform improvements we’ve made.

Neighbor improvements

  • Easier-to-browse Business Pages (US, UK, Canada): Contact information, Faves, recommendations, business posts, and Fave Award recognition, all in one place.
  • Updated Fave Award voting: A refreshed voting experience for neighbors to help surface the best businesses in their area every year.
  • Improved AI-powered Search (US): Neighbors can draw on 15 years of real neighbor knowledge and get local business information in seconds, using AI to quickly summarize. ML ranking systems improve what neighbors see, and as a business is mentioned they are autotagged to their pages.

Business improvements

  • Redesigned free Business Pages (US, UK, Canada): Cover photos, a “what neighbors say” view, elevated Fave Award displays, and a simpler call-or-message bar.
  • New Business Onboarding and Dashboard, coming soon (US): Guidance for new business owners plus a redesigned dashboard for tracking performance and managing campaigns in one place.
  • Feed access for local businesses, coming soon (US): Businesses will be able to engage directly in the neighborhood feed, posting updates and commenting alongside neighbors.
  • Opportunity Alerts (US): A paid product that routes requests from verified neighbors directly to local service providers, like auto repair, gardening, handyman, and moving services, so they can respond first and win the job.
