This August, Recognize the Emergency Managers Keeping Neighborhoods Safe

August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month, a designation started by the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Emergency Managers Committee and the U.S. Council of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) to spotlight a job most neighbors only think about when something goes wrong. IAEM represents emergency managers working in local, state, tribal, territorial, and federal government, as well as hospitals, universities, and utilities, and this month it's asking them to do something that isn't in most job descriptions: introduce themselves. As IAEM puts it in this year's awareness campaign, emergency managers are "problem solvers, the ones you call 24/7/365 when an incident requires coordination across multiple services, agencies, or disciplines." The campaign runs under the hashtags #IAmEM, #EMAwarenessMonth, and #KnowYourEmergencyManager.

Nextdoor is a campaign partner with IAEM this year, and we put together a ready-to-post message that agencies can share on their Nextdoor page to explain their role in plain language and invite real questions from residents in the comments. It's a chance for the people running emergency response in a community to put a face to that work, in a moment that isn't a crisis.

It's also a good time to share an update on the other side of the platform. The same infrastructure that carries agency alerts also carries advertiser campaigns, and Nextdoor shipped a round of changes to Ads Manager this month worth noting here too.

More visibility for advertisers

Nextdoor shipped a round of updates to Nextdoor Ads Manager focused on billing, reporting, and creative management.

Invoiced advertisers can now see their credit limit and remaining credit directly in the platform, under Business Settings, rather than asking an account manager. Advertisers with a balance due can pay it down on demand instead of waiting for a billing threshold, which helps anyone managing a card with a charge limit. When a payment fails, a retry link lets advertisers trigger another attempt immediately rather than waiting on the scheduled retry, and the option works with backup payment methods too.

On the creative side, advertisers can now archive up to ten creatives at once instead of removing them one at a time. On the reporting side, scheduled reports can be paused and resumed with a toggle, existing reports can be duplicated with all their settings intact so a new one doesn't have to be built from scratch, and the report builder now lets users drag dimensions and metrics into whatever order makes sense for their team.

Together, the changes mean fewer billing surprises that could interrupt a campaign, less manual setup for recurring reports, and real time savings for advertisers running larger creative sets.

Agencies looking for more campaign resources for National Emergency Management Awareness Month can find them through IAEM directly. Questions about anything above can go to agencysupport@nextdoor.com.
