San Jose Neighborhood Rallies for Family After a Fire Consumes Their Home

Written by Danielle Styskal

Last weekend, a large house fire in the Quimby neighborhood in San Jose, California rendered a family’s home completely uninhabitable.

Awakened just after three in the morning to smoke and fire alarms, the family of six – including four young children, parents, and two pet cats – safely escaped, but only with the clothing on their backs.

“I’ve been posting on Nextdoor and on Facebook all the things that they need, looking for people anywhere in San Jose who might be willing to donate,” said neighbor Jennifer Menzel, “just so they can get through this really difficult time.”

In just a few hours, at least ten people stepped forward to donate everything from toys to towels, pillows, playpens, and food for their pet cats. An online fundraiser has also been started to help the family.

NBC Bay Area covered the story here.
