Orlando Good Neighbor Looks Out for Community Despite Tragedy

For some, a good neighbor is one who keeps to themselves. For others, a good neighbor is someone who goes above and beyond – way beyond.

For Cyndee S. in the Fairway Pointe neighborhood in Orlando, Florida, her good neighbor is a man who is well-known in his local community. Jim has lived in the Fairway Pointe community for years, where he raised a family of foster children with his wife.

“Jim is a good and caring person,” Cyndee said. “You may know his daughter, Tanya King. She was an Orlando police officer who was killed in action years ago, but Jim still exudes grace and warmth in spite of the tragedies he has suffered through. He is the example of what being a good neighbor and friend is.” The community has come together over the years since, re-naming their neighborhood’s main road after Tanya and the King family.

Jim has been there for Cyndee multiple times when she was in need. Cyndee is confined to a wheelchair, and often needs to call on Jim for help. Recently, Cyndee unexpectedly heard the footsteps of someone on her roof. She wasn’t expecting any workers or repairmen, so immediately called Jim for help. He dropped everything and ran over, performing a quick check of the perimeter around the home to make sure it was safe.

Cyndee says that this is just one of the many examples she has of how Jim has helped her and her husband over the years.

“He is truly a blessing to my husband and me, and I am sure our neighbors next to him also feel the same,” Cyndee said. “I am so glad that he is our neighbor.”
