National Small Business Week: How small businesses are putting community first

Written by Annie Barco

Small businesses make great neighborhoods, and we are honored that hundreds of thousands across the country use Nextdoor to form stronger ties with their local communities. Not only do small businesses help our economy, but they also improve our communities by giving back in unique ways.

In celebration of National Small Business Week, we asked some of the most beloved local businesses on Nextdoor why community is important to them and how they put #communityfirst.

3 Men Movers – Houston, TX

3 Men Movers has been helping move Houstonians for over 30 years, so it is a community they care deeply about. In September 2017, when Houston was hit by the devastating Hurricane Harvey, 3 Men Movers knew it was time to give back to the community who had supported them through the years. So, they decided to offer 30 free moves for 30 families affected by the hurricane (see how one woman was impacted by their kindness, here). Additionally, 3 Men Movers worked with Houston ISD to move shirts to shelters to help clothe those in need.

Bee Clean Car Washes opened its first car wash in 2011, and has since become a beloved family owned business known not only for great service but for giving back to the community in many ways. For example, Bee Clean Car Washes provides free washes to local police patrol vehicles as an appreciation for their service. They also make donations to the community whenever possible. For every car wash purchased, Bee Clean Car Washes donates the change to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. After the Sutherland Springs shooting in November 2017, Bee Clean Car Washes donated $10,000 to the victims’ families.
