The Dutch are world-famous for having a strong sense of neighborhood identity and are deeply committed to community. They even have their own word for it: gezelligheid, which means to have a strong sense of belonging and community in a neighborhood, so they were an obvious first choice for our international expansion.
One year ago, we launched in the Netherlands after a successful three-month beta. At the time, more than 93 neighborhoods across the country were using Nextdoor.
Now, we’re excited to announce that Nextdoor is being used by more than 4,000 neighborhoods, representing more than 40% of the neighborhoods across the Netherlands.
We’ve been blown away by the response. Dutch neighbors have used Nextdoor for everything from helping a neighbor in need to planning community events and discussing neighborhood watch. In honor of our anniversary, we surveyed Nextdoor members across the Netherlands and found that an extraordinary 60% of Nextdoor neighbors met new people in their community because of Nextdoor. Of these, 10% met more than 10 new neighbors.
We’re proud to have this kind of positive impact in Dutch communities across the country, and we’re excited for the next year and beyond. From all of us at Nextdoor: proost!
