Starting today, neighborhoods across Northern California and Nevada will receive hyperlocal information regarding Special Olympics events, volunteer opportunities, and ways to donate directly on their Nextdoor websites.
In addition to free, year-round training and competition programs for more than 24,500 athletes who compete in over 270 competitions in communities across Northern California and Nevada, Special Olympics Northern California & Nevada connects passionate members of the community with an opportunity to serve others.
With athletes competing in events including track & field, basketball, golf, floor hockey, tennis, volleyball, flag football, cross-country, and alpine skiing, it takes more than 24,000 volunteers a year to come together in support of these programs. Additionally, Special Olympics Northern California & Nevada is growing its Schools Partnership Program, which promotes inclusion at an early age, and is actively expanding Unified Sports®, which brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to play as teammates.
The Special Olympics is fueled by local support from schools, neighborhoods, and larger communities across Northern California and Nevada. Many of the events are held within communities, and the Special Olympics relies on thousands of volunteers to help bring these incredible events to life.
As a proud partner, we’re honored to help spread the word about local Special Olympics events happening in neighborhoods across Northern California and Nevada, encourage neighbors to support fundraising efforts, and sign up as volunteers for events and activities near them.
