Summer of Good Neighbors: Celebrating Nextdoor Agave in Austin, Texas

Written by Annie Barco

In the summer of 2010, Nextdoor was just an idea: that technology could help us create stronger neighborhoods by connecting us to those who live nearby. Over the course of a year, Nextdoor’s co-founders invited 176 neighborhoods to beta test Nextdoor. In celebration of these neighborhoods – and the more than 145,000 neighborhoods using Nextdoor in the U.S. – Nextdoor is proud to announce our Summer of Good Neighbors Tour. We’re visiting ten of the original 176 neighborhoods to host an ice cream social in honor of community and good neighbors everywhere.

In May, the Nextdoor team went back to where it all it all started: the Lorelei neighborhood in Menlo Park, CA. It was incredible celebration of our first community to thank the neighbors who have helped us grow to over 145,000 neighborhoods in the U.S.

Now, we’re taking our tour cross-country. This summer, we’re visiting ten more of the original 176 neighborhoods across the United States and celebrating them with an ice cream social in their neighborhood.

Our third stop in early July was in the vibrant neighborhood, Nextdoor Agave, in Austin, Texas.

Agave residents come together to celebrate their community

Nextdoor Agave is a large, diverse neighborhood of over 800 households. Just west of the Walter E. Long Lake and north of the Colorado River, Nextdoor Agave is ideally located in an area surrounded by beautiful, open parks.

Besides being a beautiful place to live, Agave neighbors also love that their neighborhood is friendly and welcoming to families and pets. You can often find parents enjoying the many parks with their kids or out for a walk in the neighborhood with their dogs.

Other neighbors say it’s the diverse group of neighbors and the neighborhood architecture that makes Agave their favorite place to call home.

Neighbors mingle while enjoying their ice cream

In honor of their special community, neighbors recently gathered for an annual Independence Day celebration. Nextdoor joined in on the fun and provided an ice cream truck (thanks Good Times Austin!) and Nextdoor swag for Agave neighbors to enjoy.

We are so appreciative of the neighbors who have helped Nextdoor spread to neighborhoods across Texas, and are thrilled to have celebrated with Nextdoor Agave.

We look forward to continuing our summer tour this weekend, with a visit to Nextdoor Cumberland Ridge in Columbus, OH!
