Community Impact to Share Hyperlocal News with Neighbors on Nextdoor

Written by Annie Barco

Every day, neighbors connect on Nextdoor and engage in thoughtful discussions about local issues, which are essential to building a strong community and an informed civic dialogue.

We soon realized that this conversation could be made stronger by helping residents directly connect with the organizations delivering their local news. Over the past several months, we have made it a focus to partner with news organizations across the country, and today we are announcing our newest partner: Community Impact in Texas.

Community Impact has over twenty hyperlocal newspapers serving thirty-eight communities in the greater Austin, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth areas. Fourteen papers have been sharing local stories with Nextdoor members for several months, and today another eight papers are joining the platform.

Community Impact is invested in the communities it serves, with dedicated reporters in each community tasked with staying up-to-date on the local issues residents care about most. Since Nextdoor members often discuss these issues on Nextdoor, it was a natural fit to partner with Community Impact.

Community Impact papers will use Nextdoor to share stories covering a variety of topics, from major building or freeway renovations, to summaries of city council meetings, to news about local hot spots to visit. The hyperlocal papers will also be able to post polls and open-ended questions to learn from residents directly about the issues that matter most, and to help elevate the neighborhood voice in the stories they publish.

We’re thrilled to have twenty-two Community Impact papers on Nextdoor, and look forward to a successful partnership. From everyone at Nextdoor, welcome to the neighborhood, Community Impact!

Like other news partners, posts from Community Impact papers will appear in Nextdoor newsfeeds across Texas, as well as members’ Daily Digests. Each hyperlocal paper’s editorial team can see and respond to replies to their posts; however, the rest of the neighborhood conversations remain private for the verified members of each community.
