Supporting Local Nonprofits: Nextdoor Foundation Partners with Grapevine for $127.5K Giving Initiative

Local nonprofits are the backbone of thriving communities—yet many operate with limited resources while creating outsized impact. That's why the Nextdoor Foundation has partnered with Grapevine to launch the "Close the Gap" campaign, a $127,500 initiative, supported by the Nextdoor Foundation, designed to amplify grassroots giving and support community-rooted organizations.

Empowering Giving Circles to Do More

Through this campaign, eligible Giving Circles on the Grapevine platform can receive up to $2,000 in matching funds to support local nonprofits with annual operating budgets under $2 million. These smaller organizations often struggle with funding despite being critical to local well-being—from food pantries and youth programs to environmental initiatives and community centers.

The campaign goes beyond matching funds. Five nonprofits demonstrating exceptional community impact will receive surprise bonus grants of up to $10,000 each. No separate application is required—any nonprofit that receives a Giving Circle grant with matching funds through the campaign will automatically be considered for these bonus awards.

Building on a Foundation of Community Connection

This initiative builds on the partnership between Grapevine and the Nextdoor Foundation that began in 2024. The collaboration started in Los Angeles, helping neighbors connect and start Giving Circles within their communities through training, support, and matching donations. The Close the Gap campaign expands this work nationwide.

"At the Nextdoor Foundation, we believe thriving communities are built when neighbors come together to support one another," said Kelsey Grady, President of Nextdoor Foundation. "Local nonprofits are the heart of this work, often operating with limited resources but creating outsized impact. Through this partnership with Grapevine, we're excited to fuel community-driven generosity and help these vital organizations grow their reach and resilience."

    How Neighbors Can Get Involved

The process is straightforward for those interested in participating:

    • Use Grapevine to host your Giving Circle and collect donations
    • Direct funds to nonprofits with annual operating budgets under $2 million to be eligible for matching
    • Submit grant requests by December 1, 2025
    • Receive up to $2,000 in matching funds after grants are selected and eligibility requirements are met

    The Power of Collective Giving

Grapevine has already helped direct over $48 million to more than 7,000 small, local nonprofits across the country. As Emily Rasmussen, Founder and CEO of Grapevine, notes: "Local nonprofits are driving meaningful change in communities across the country and need our help more than ever. By pooling our resources and giving together, we can ensure these organizations have the support they need to keep going and growing toward building more thriving communities."

The Close the Gap campaign represents the kind of neighbor-to-neighbor support that makes communities stronger. By connecting people who care with the organizations making a difference, this initiative helps ensure that local nonprofits have the resources they need to continue their vital work.
