Mike Armstrong doesn’t allow crime in his Nextdoor neighborhood of Annesdale Park. In fact, since moving to his Memphis neighborhood three years ago, Mike has been reducing crime one culprit at a time.
Mike works from home most days and therefore has the opportunity to keep a close watch on his neighborhood. With the help of surveillance cameras he installed, Mike has helped identify and capture several neighborhood thieves who had stolen property from his home and others.
He’s also caught two suspects in the act of stealing packages from neighbors’ front porches and has held them until police arrived. It is something that has earned him the name of “the neighborhood thief catcher.”
“I like to think I have a good eye for suspicious activity,” said Mike. “And when I see something truly suspicious, I act on it by alerting police and my neighbors.”
And he does, no matter the time of day. According to his wife Rhea, who nominated Mike for Nextdoor’s Good Neighbor Award, Mike is always available to help his neighbors. If there is ever a crime and safety alert on Nextdoor, Mike will immediately stop what he’s doing and take a drive around the neighborhood to make sure everyone is safe.
“It’s just what I do,” explained Mike. “The community knows that if anyone ever sees something, they can call me and I’ll go check it out.”
From all of us at Nextdoor, congratulations Mike, and thank you for all that you do to keep your neighborhood safe!
